In spite of an uncertain start in the sixties, colored by a brief fascination with the Partridge Family and the Monkees, Sybaelle was introduced to the sounds of David Bowie's Space Oddity on one of the more famous episodes of the Midnight Special in the early seventies, and things were just never the same after that.
Alongside a love of sci fi and fantasy which included Asimov, Zelazny and Tolkien, and years and years of classical training on the piano, Sybaelle's newfound musical experiences soon expanded to the likes of Hawkwind, King Crimson, Queen, ELP and Genesis. Other bands such as UK and Rush helped make for an interesting mix that shaped an entire decade and left Sybaelle filled with words and dreams that managed to surface as stark visions of pain told through poetry and paintings that ended with the advent of disco and a feeling of betrayal from some of the precious musicians Sybaelle had learned to trust.
Sybaelle spent the eighties honing her artistic skills, finding her way to university and becoming immersed in the art of cinematography. Not to forget the writing she always carried with her, she managed to emerge mostly unscathed with a degree in both filmmaking and english. The dry years of this decade, made music a painful memory. Little was there to beckon, and Sybaelle began to dream of making sounds herself, just to make up for the increasing plethora of mediocrity hitting the airwaves on such a regular basis.
The nineties saw Sybaelle turn full time to writing, creating her own worlds and characters and honing her craft through workshops and writers groups. She avoided the music scene in general, focusing mainly on collecting the music she loved on ever more hard to find cd format. Here and there she found snippets of things to encourage her that perhaps the wasteland might come to an end, but it was mostly a cruel joke. She hadn't yet delved deep enough to find the new treasures being created and would take almost another decade to finally come back and put it all together into one continuing work that would encompass all of the skills she had gatheredt through the years.
The discovery of Post Rock and bands such as Godspeed You Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky gave Sybaelle hope that indeed there is a future for music. Deciding to take to the keyboard once more, this time in the form of synths, she began her own musical journey that culminated in the release of her first cd called Once. A self described autobiographical landscape of sound, it is the first of many experiments in the realms of experimental electronic/ambient music. She hopes to have many works to follow.
With her faithful cat Jake alongside her to purr to the sounds, Sybaelle continues to work on her next release.
