Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
The first couple of verses are factual… the rest spins to hyperbole but based on a beach holiday in the Gambia (Where we spurned the beach for bird-watching in the creeks.)A grumpy old man song according to Sheila.
Lyrics
MC 09 Snob 140bpm country rock with Mick Ash lead guitar A I had humble beginnings wore second hand suits E Brought up in East London and I know my roots F#mB When I travelled hitch-hiking was my only way to roam E A I sold my blood on my honeymoon just to get us home We used to share a minestrone and a plate of chips A forced vegetarian diet before it was hip But now we spurn the beach-bars full of tattoos and noise For a swanky restaurant full of culture and poise chorus D I know life can be tough Raucous and rough A Sometimes you beg steal borrow or rob D But as I get , fewer burdens to shoulder EE7 I fear I’m becoming a snob! Don’t want to hang around with crowds sporting acres of flesh That’s definitely somewhere where more is less Raucous drunken behaviour I now find crass and rude DE And more to the point it puts me off my food (variant chords) Instrumental Now you know I don’t mean to pontificate It’s the kind of thing my younger self would really hate I don’t want to give out some stereotypical tract About the youngsters of today and the way they act Repeat¬ chorus So just give me some space where I can take my place Without your exhibitionism in my face I don’t care what you do in your privacy Just as long as it don’t interfere with me Altered chorus I know life can be tough, Raucous and rough Sometimes you beg borrow or rob But there’s really no harm in a little decorum C Am7 CAm7C So change your behaviour, and you’ll be my saviour A Please stop me from becoming a snobRepeat¬ chorus
