Story behind the song
My take on James Horner's iconic soundtrack from 'Titanic' with Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebo. Although my version is played faster than the original, I followed Horner's mood for the intro of his hymn, then when the original drops in pace to accentuate profound loss, my version instead raises the pace giving the hymn a slight lift in mood until the impending doom of the outré sequence. Instruments played with the Fishman TriplePlay guitar synth. Female Soloist; Legato Singing Soprano 2 from SampleTank2. Mixed Choral Ensemble; SampleTank3. Solo Fiddle; Miroslav Philharmonik. Pan Flute & Tin Whistle; Magix World Flutes. Harp; Magix Celtic Harps. TEControl was used to modify the Pan Flute breath noise and the Solo Fiddle's bow pressure. Instruments played on the AKAI MPK261. Piano Bass intro; 'The Giant' from Native Instruments Kontakt 5. Orchestral Strings and Brass Sections; Miroslav Philharmonik. Magix 'VITA' Contrabass and 'DN-e1' Synth Bass. Outré Percussion from Magix 'VITA' Orchestral Drums. Recorded, produced and mastered using Magix Samplitude Music Studio 2015. Director James Cameron originally intended Enya to compose the music, and in fact put together a rough edit of the film using her music as a temporary soundtrack. After she declined, he approached James Horner, although their relations were cold after their first cooperation in Aliens, the soundtrack of Braveheart made Cameron overlook their differences. Horner composed his soundtrack, keeping in mind Enya's style, with Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebo performing the wordless vocals on the soundtrack. Horner knew Sissel from the album 'Innerst i sjelen' (Deep Down in the Soul) and he particularly liked how she sang the song 'Eg Veit I Himmerik Ei Borg' ("I Know in Heaven There Is a Castle"). Horner had tried 25 or 30 singers and, in the end, he chose Sissel to sing the wordless tune.
