Story behind the song
Quotes from Darrell Lance Abbott (August 20, 1966 December 8, 2004) "When I tried to play something and screwed up, Id hear some other note that would come into play. Then I started trying different things to find the beauty in it." "I got home, picked up my axe, turned on the four-track and just played it I played three solos back to back on Cemetery Gates the next morning, the second and third solos werent bad, but the first had that first take magic!I didnt touch it" "Play what's in your heart.. I never hear the sucky parts.. it all sounds good to me.." Also known as Diamond Darrell and Dimebag Darrell, Abbott was a ground breaking American guitarist. He was best known as a founding member of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan, and is considered one of the driving forces behind groove metal. Darrell Abbott was shot and killed while on stage during a Damageplan performance on December 8, 2004, at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. The shooter was killed by police officer James D. Niggemeyer at the scene and a motive was never determined.
